A Thousand Pictures

Okay this post is correlated with the very previous one. Don't bother to read the previous, and also don't bother to read this one too. I somehow just want to write yet i don't really know why. So as usual, this post will be containing those shitty quality assumptions and hypotheses i built in my damn head. So once again, don't bother to read it like really, i'm not even sure if i have conveyed anything the right way, i mean i'm not even sure that those who read actually comprehend what i wrote, since i don't even understand it myself.

So i better cut the bullshit and continue the previous post.

Well as what i was talking about in the previous post, i'm still finding the right conclusion for the precise connection between the interest of both reading and writing and how advance a country is. And i asked a lot of my friends about their opinion on this and some actually gave good answers.

So i guess i will explain my friends' answers first before i give mine.

A lot of them said yes both things are coherent, well actually there was only one who said not, and yet he still said that yes it is indirectly connected. I also didn't forget to make sure that they're aware of how we are still stuck in this shithole.

So this is the most memorable answer my friend had given to me:
"Because knowledge is power and the people in developed countries must be well aware of that and the habit of learning is somewhat already there for most of their people."

Fucking direct ain't it? After i heard this answer, i asked myself how come i complicated everything up for such a simple answer? Is it my arrogance who refused to be looked ignorant while losing awareness that i'm avoiding the simple truth? I don't know, my answer is a lot more complex than this one while i think my complicated answer can be summarized by the quoted sentence above, which was simply delivered.

Some also answered that yes we do need to read to transform into a better being, but the place we're living in forced us to think about food first rather than anything, therefore in shorter phrase, we're too poor to read, it's either die starving or die stupid, those were the only options.

I guess the 2 paragraphs above are the answers of my friend that i really need to write, i have forgotten about the rests since i did take note about their answers but i actually could not really get what they said. So we can move to mine now.

So before we can move to my answer, i need to make sure that you all have acknowledged regarding my interpretation of the word 'past'.

In a timeline i categorized everything into three, past, present, and future, and i don't think it's only me who did this. Well present is too dynamic, and instead of the past or the future, i have my biggest question for present. I just think that no one can really state when is present, it's dealing with physics like photons, atoms, and dimensions. I can't explain it properly so let's skip this one and move to the past and the future. We're living in the spacetime, and we can not yet do anything to it, so no one has any answer about the future, yes? The future is blurred, that simple for now. And now the past, it is absolute indeed, since we're living in these dimensions.

Past passed, we can be sure of it.

So that's the bottom line of the interpretation, past is absolute because it passed.

Now my bridge between the interest of reading and writing and the advancement of a country placed in that explanation about the absoluteness of everything.

I will set Europe as the benchmark of advancement since it has a pretty wide gap against Indonesia's development. And the land also contains everything that can rationalize my hypotheses, well i can also use China, but i think Europe is much simpler.

Europe has been writing since the Roman Republic, how could we know that? Because we know what Roman Republic is, how it went and almost everything about it. Europe has been writing for more than 2000 years and just take a look at what they have became now. Now take a look at ancient Indonesian writings that spanned just about half of Europe's total knowledge of the past, 1 millennium. We can only be certain for very less things from our old writings. We started to write only from when the Dutch came toward us because as you can see, that period is the beginning when our history has the details of almost everything. Well our ancestors did write in stones, but fuck that method, it probably took weeks to finish a sentence when they wrote in a stone, we won't have any detail since the writer may die before what he wanted to write got finished. The point is, sculpting writings on stones is highly ineffective. That's why most of our history delivered by verbal communications back then. And remember about Verba volant, Scripta manent? An experiment had conducted to prove this Latin idiom. You can only remember 20% what you heard.

Let's go back to Europe, they have abundant piles of their own history, they will never forget who they were, who they wanted to be, and who they are.

How about Indonesia? We don't even know who we are.

Now this is where nationality take place.

So let me tell you why this post takes so long to get published. I actually had the outline on my memo, i did no change at all about everything, but i just still thought that it was not strong enough. But today's lecture was a total enlightenment. The lecturer mentioned about the meaning of nationality that grew up in Europe on post France Revolution in the era called Romantic. This was the very explanation that i needed.

So we don't need to doubt that uniformed nationality from a society is totally connected to a country advancement, no? Society with nationality won't let their country down, that's where their quality showed up.

The nationality on that era was born on the ethnic identity basis, it was born when a race dreamed of having their own land. And the movement spread toward Europe, that's why as you can see upon Europe now, an ethnic mostly resides an area, they reached their dreams.

So let's roll up back a few, nationality is directly connected to country's advancement. How can a race grow nationality? Europe had successfully used the ethnic identity method. How do they have ethnic identity? By knowing who they are. How could they know who they are? By reading their history. How could they read their history? Because their predecessors wrote it. Voila!

Now let's observe what we have here in Indonesia.

Predecessors' writings? Minimum.
Reading history? We have less we can be certain of.
Who are we? Don't know shit.
Ethnic identity method? No fucking chance. And remember "Bhineka tunggal ika."
Nationality? Don't ask.

WELL THAT BHINEKA TUNGGAL IKA THING IS ANOTHER THING I NEED TO EXPLAIN. So the meaning of the notion is "United despite the differences." We have too many races in here, way too many, we don't really know which one is our genuine ancestors, since we have minimum source to find out. No one even knows when our mother language started to be used by our people, then don't ask when it started to form.

We just have too lack of past, too lack of absoluteness, too lack of identity.

Oh i forgot to mention one more thing, pride. Don't need to explain it right? Since we have too many uncertainty on ourselves?

I'm just unable to find anything to be proud of from uncertainty, it's like stating the public that you have won a competition while the competition itself starts tomorrow.
